Plum native McGough promoted to Triple-A

Scott McGough continues his march toward the majors, or, as he has called it, “the climb up the mountain.”

The Plum native on Friday was promoted to the Triple-A level with the Miami Marlins, a day after being named a Southern League All-Star with the Double-A Jacksonville Suns.

McGough made his Pacific Coast League debut with the New Orleans Zephyrs on Friday when he started the second game of a doubleheader at Oklahoma City.

McGough, 23, has shined out of the bullpen this summer, posting a 4-0 record and a 2.17 ERA. Teams are batting .209 against the right-hander in 26 appearances.

His baseball resume includes being selected by the Pirates in the 46th round of the 2008 amateur draft. He bypassed the minors then and attended Oregon, where his stock drastically rose.

He was taken in the fifth round by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2011 draft and played in their lower levels before a trade last July sent him to Miami.

He was part of a four-player deal that sent all-star third baseman Hanley Ramirez to Los Angeles.
